"Kaleidoscope Floral"

Just out today, my new beauty story "Kaleidoscope Floral" in the November issue of Qlix Magazine!
Photography by Dorit Thies, Model Krystal Martos@Nous Agency, , Jewelry by Joe Polthakorn for Vilaiwan, and makeup by me!

I wanted to keep the makeup abstract and modern and use colors to compliment the beautiful handmade jewelry of designer Joe Polthakorn .

Krystal's fabulous face was the perfect canvas to play with gorgeous red, gold, silver, and purple pigments from MAC, OCC, and Benefit. The colors really showcased Joe's amazing pieces. So much fun! :-)

Beauty preview

Saturday I did a beauty shoot with photographer Dorit Thies www.doritthies.com and the always amazing Alli@Photogenics. I wanted to really bring out Alli's white skin and stunning red hair, so for her makeup I just moisturized her skin, and added a punch of strong color on her lips with OCC Cosmetics Lip Tar. I left the rest of her face bare for ultimate contrast. More to come soon!

Nail Pro Cover Shoot

Here's a sneak peek at yesterday's cover shoot for the September issue of Nail Pro Magazine, photographed by Dorit Thies www.doritthies.com. The theme for the nails was "jewels", which is right up my alley, and I wanted the makeup to reflect that. Our model Djosefin@photogenics, was very patient! I started with Make Up For Ever Gold Metallic Powder over her entire lids, to create a gilded base that would act as a sort of "prism" when mixed with other colors. After applying her base color, I wet my brush and swept Urban Decay eyeshadow in "Goddess" an intense deep blue with flecks of glitter thru it over her base color and under her eyes. I then brushed Obsessive Compulsive loose color in "Heroic", a shimmery deep cobalt pigment lightly over the entire eye, and swept Make Up For Ever Star Powder #90947 in the inner corners of her eyes and up to her brow bone. Djosefin then sat very still while I glued tiny individual crystal "jewels" on her eyes. I finished the entire look with a sprinkling of deep blue glitter from Make Up For Ever to add even more sparkle, cause I was having way too much fun, and why hold back when you can bring the bling, right? More to come in September!

Manzin

Fabulous shoot today with the amazing Melissa Rodwell www.melissarodwell.com, of model and performance artist Manzin...To make his eyes pop, I used MAC Chromcake in Black, Obssesive Compulsive Cosmetics Pigment in Cherry Bomb, and Make Up Forever Pure Pigment in Matte Bright Orange to give him an otherworldly bird like feel. He was an awesome sport, and really got into the vibe of the shoot. Behind the scenes at my shoot for Mirrin Magazine

Yesterday I had the privilege of collaborating with photographer Melissa Rodwell, www.melissarodwell.com on an amazing story for London's Mirrin Magazine Summer 2010 issue www.mirrinmagazine.com. Our stylist Angela pulled tons of fabulous clothes and jewelry. Our models Ana, and Eugenia at Photogenics, and Daniel and Amadeus at Ford were fantastic, and totally got into the vibe of the shoot, and hairstylist Damian Monzillo www.kateryaninc.com rocked out some wicked hair!

The look and feel of the shoot was very Victorian, and I wanted to bring out that otherwordly antique feel with the makeup. On Ana and Eugenia I used OCC Makeup pigments in Copperwire, and Brasstacks all over their lids and under eyes. I then lined both the girls and boys eyes on top and bottom with Le Crayon Kohl eyepencil from Lancome in "Black Ebony", and smudged the lines with a brush to make the whole thing very diffused and undone looking; but still sexy and smokey.

The location was gorgeous and we shot just down the beach from Diane Von Furstenbergs house in Malibu, Ca. The weather was sunny and beautiful, and the pictures were magical...Can't wait to see the final images!!!
